Best Books for JEE Main and Advance

Word of Precaution: Though I have listed multiple books for IIT JEE preparation, you should use only limited numbers of books as advised at the end of this article. Do not buy or use all of the books listed. You can refer to other books for revision once you have finished the syllabus.

Due to lack of knowledge about good books, many students are not able to clear JEE.

In this article, I give you the best advice for the books you should refer to for increasing your chance and then your rank significantly in JEE Main and Advance.

Best books for JEE Main Physics

1. Concepts of physics by H. C. Verma (2 volumes)

Publisher: Bharati Bhawan (Publishers & Distributors)

Pros:

·      Concepts very close knit to JEE syllabus

·      Multitude of very good problems on all topics

·      You can finish both volumes in just 1 year of preparation

Cons:

·      Application part is somewhat not enough (may be due to more focus on concepts).

2. Physics for JEE (Main & Advanced) by Halliday / Resnick / Walker

Publisher: Wiley

Pros:

·      Higher level concepts on all the topics

Cons:

·      No cons. It is however not suitable for beginners.

3. Understanding Physics (JEE Main & Advance) by D C Pandey (Set of 5 books)

Mechanics (Vol. 1 & 2)

Electricity & Magnetism

Optics & Modern Physics

Waves & Thermodynamics

Publisher: Arihant Prakashan

Pros:

·      Well-explanation concepts

·      Almost all good derivations included

·      Plethora of solved and unsolved problems

·      Very good for beginners and upto intermediate preparation

Cons:

·      A bit much exhaustive. May not be suitable for students looking for preparation in just one year.

4. Problems in General Physics by I.E Irodov

Publisher: Arihant Prakashan

Pros:

·      Very High Standard Practicing problems

Cons:

·      Can be useful only if you already have above intermediate level knowledge of Physics.

5. University Physics for JEE Mains and Advance (Vol 1 & 2) by Hugh D. Young & Roger A. Freedman

Publisher: Pearson

Pros:

·      Covers high level questions

Cons:

·      May not be suitable for beginners

6. Problems in Physics for IIT JEE Main and Advanced (Multiple volumes) by Shashi Bhushan Tiwari

Publisher: McGraw-Hill

Pros:

·      A number of practicing problems and solutions.

Cons:

·      Might be slightly difficult to understand for non-English medium students

1. NCERT Textbooks

Class XI Vol 1 and 2

Class XII Vol 1 and 2

Pros:

·      Many questions are being asked directly from NCERT textbook

·      Many questions are being asked indirectly from NCERT textbook

Cons:

·      Theory is written like long passages. Little focus on segregating long passages in bullet points

Pros:

·      For practice of solving Physical Chemistry Numericals

Cons:

·      Theoretical concepts not explained in detail

Pros:

·      Good explanation of topics

·      Good quality of problems

Cons:

·      Concepts not explained in detail

·      A bit too many problems. You might not be able to finish the book.

·      Few very easy questions could have been removed

·      Few off-pattern questions. Probably related to very old JEE papers.

·      Very good for strengthening core concepts of Trigonometry
